Annual Open Day – Sunday, 16th July 2017

We are having our Annual Open Day in Stadhampton on 16th July from 1:30pm to 4:00pm. We would love for you to join us for an afternoon of fete day games suitable for all ages, helping to raise some much needed funds for our animals.

WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE DAY

  • BBQ – (including veggie options)
  • Ice Creams and Soft Drinks
  • Tea & Cake Tent – (please bring any cakes, cookies, muffins and any other delicious treats you can get your hands)
  • Live music – This year we will be joined by local band Small and Gold. They are a brilliant folk band. (https://www.facebook.com/SmallAndGold/)
  • 100 Club Stand – Helping you to sign up to a monthly draw where you can win £10 or even £20
  • Pet Photo Booth – Selfies with your dog are good, but professional photos taken in our fun photo booth is better. (https://www.facebook.com/emmaforsythphotography/)
  • Doggy Games – We have organised a range of interactive dog friendly games for your pet to win delicious treats… if they can work out how to get it.
  • Plus lots of other stalls with plenty of prizes for your pet.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Many of our dogs suffer with stress and anxiety when strangers enter their kennel areas. Therefore visitors will be restricted from walking around kennels at this years Open Day.

Stress is a significant factor in rescue environments generally, and particularly here at OAS as we take in many dogs that have acute behavioural difficulties and have a duty of care to protect them from further stressful situations. In recent years after Open Day, staff observe increased levels of stress and undesirable behaviour due to the volume of people entering their kennel areas. For a few of our dogs, these issues have led to medical problems including diarrhoea and behavioural issues including kennel guarding and aggression.

We understand that many Open Day visitors like to see the dogs when they come, but would ask them to visit during normal visiting hours if they are interested in adopting. Meeting dogs in a calm and controlled way is a much better way to see them and allows the dogs to express their normal behaviour, away from the stress created by large crowds which to many is a scary situation.

We hope that our supporters understand why we must put their needs first.
