For dog adoptions
You understand that the dog will be rehomed as a house pet and is not to be kept kennelled or chained up outside.
The dog will be rehomed to you as a companion, not as a guard dog or for breeding purposes.
You understand that you are subject to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, which means that you can receive an unlimited fine or be sent to prison for up to 6 months (or both) if your dog is dangerously out of control. A ‘dangerously out of control’ dog can be defined as a dog that has injured someone, or a dog that a person has grounds for reasonable apprehension that it may do so. Something as simple as your dog chasing, barking at or jumping up at a person or child could lead to a complaint, so ensure that your dog is under control at all times.
It is extremely important that you are aware of the law, so please do your research before adopting a dog.
For kitten adoptions
You agree to have the kitten(s) neutered by a qualified vet by a date specified by OAS, at your own cost. You will be given a neutering certificate at time of adoption. Failure to do this may result in the pet being returned to OAS for neutering and then rehomed to a different owner.
For all adoptions
Return to OAS. Should the animal ever leave your care, for any reason, it must be returned to OAS. The animal must not be sold, given away, rehomed or otherwise transferred by you to any third party.
Veterinary fees. You understand that full liability for any veterinary fees incurred at any future date remains your liability, unless an exemption is agreed on the adoption form.
Behaviour and settling in. You understand that although we tell you everything we know about the animal, we do not always have a complete history and therefore cannot guarantee behaviour. It may take six months or more for the animal to settle in.
Deposits and fees. You understand that the £20 reservation deposit and all adoption fees are non-refundable, including where you change your mind or decide not to proceed. Where an animal is returned to OAS, deposits and adoption fees already paid are not refundable.
Rented accommodation. If you live in rented accommodation, OAS will require a letter from your landlord or estate agent to confirm that your tenancy agreement allows pets.
Ownership and reclaim. In certain cases, OAS will retain ownership of the animal, and reserves the right to reclaim the animal if it feels the animal is not being fed, housed or cared for to its satisfaction, or where the terms of the adoption agreement are not being met. Where OAS retains ownership, this will be confirmed on your adoption form.
