As we stride into October, we can’t help but notice the shift in weather—October has greeted us with more than its fair share of rain!
But, despite the grey skies, the team at the Sanctuary remains as dedicated as ever, working tirelessly in all conditions to ensure the well-being of our animals. Whether it’s pouring with rain or the sun is shining, our incredible staff and volunteers continue to go above and beyond, providing love and care for each and every one of our residents.
September saw 86 of our furry friends finding their forever homes, undoubtedly causing equal amounts of havoc and merriment!
To put into context just how remarkable 86 adoptions are, it marks our second-best month ever—only beaten by the record-breaking number we achieved in August!
This year, to date, we’ve helped almost 200 more animals in just nine months than we did in the same period of 2023—a staggering 48% increase.
Thanks to your generous donations, we’ve provided care and found loving homes for more animals than ever before, and we are immensely grateful for your ongoing support. Your contributions are truly making a difference, and we couldn’t do it without you.
Kicking things off, a pair of rabbits, Elza and Arnold, were the first to leave the Sanctuary, followed by seven more bunnies soon after. Among them were Latte, Buddy & Bailey, Kiwi, and Peaches, Pepper, and Oreo, who all went home together as a trio!
In the world of dogs, the big news was that Thor, our senior Staffy statesman, finally found his forever home with some amazing new owners.
Gary the Lurcher also left after more than four months in our care, while Bella, a nine-year-old Yorkie, found her perfect match. Meanwhile, the picture-perfect Shih-Tzu, Honey, is now enjoying life, gazing at her reflection in every mirror she finds!
As is becoming typical, a vast number of cats and kittens—over 60, in fact—were also adopted. Matilda was the first to find her new home in September, followed by Maple, Mr Fluffers, Biscuit, Angelica (from the Rugrats group), all the kittens named after Game of Thrones characters, Casey & Inky, Princess, Mischief, Prince, Walrus (yes, really!), Sweetpea & her daughter Honeysuckle, Bowie, Edith & Olive, Daryl (the handsome stray), Albatross, Walter & Rupert, Rain, Sunny, Storm, Cloud, Misty, Snow, Dolphin, Maeve, Darlene & Gerald (brilliant!), Penguin (equally brilliant!), Wallace & Clarence, Lil (another Rugrats member), Edgar & Reuben, Audrey & her son Bernard (fantastic naming, team!), and a whole cheese-themed group of kittens: Camembert, Edam, Gouda, Halloumi, and Cheddar.
We imagine many of them have since been renamed by their new owners!
Phew! Expect some similarly quirky names in next month’s update.
As always, a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful adopters, our relentlessly generous supporters, and, of course, our brilliant staff and volunteers for making all of this possible.
