And so the preparations for Fireworks Night begin! 🎇

Here’s hoping all the animals are as calm as possible during this evening's events. 🙏

Whilst some of us enjoy fireworks, sadly, to our animal companions they aren’t so enjoyable. Many become anxious and some tremble with fear 😔

Here at the sanctuary, we try to keep all our animals as calm and relaxed as possible by providing various calming aids, puzzle feeders and plenty of enrichment.

Here are some useful hints on what you can do to help your fur companion:

🎇 Walk dogs before it gets dark and always ensure they are on a lead.

🎆 Keep cats indoors

🎇 Put thick sheets up over rabbit or guinea pig enclosures. This will help block out the flashes, but ensure you still allow air to circulate.

🎆 Check microchip details are up to date.

🎇 Provide plenty of hideaways, especially for small furries.

🎆 Keep windows, doors and curtains closed to help reduce the sound and the flashes.

🎇 Provide your animals with plenty of enrichment.

🎆 Use calming aids to help reduce stress and anxiety.

🎇 Have your vet’s contact details at hand in case of an emergency.

🎆 Classic FM have a special program to help keep pets calm on Wednesday 5th & Saturday 8th from 5-9pm.

Please meet Buster ❤️

Buster is a typical Bulldog, full of personality and comical antics. 🤣

This dude is an all-round charmer, he loves everyone he meets and is always up for a pat on the head and a good boy treat. 💖

Depending on his mood he can be the biggest snuggle buddy or silly and stubborn. 🤣❤️

He’s a bit of a softy and loves hugs with his favourite people. Buster is also a bit of a couch potato so is perfect for a family looking for a dog that doesn't require oodles of exercise. 😌

This handsome lad is looking for the following type of home 🏡
🐶 To be the only pet in the home
🐶 An owner who is experienced with this breed would be preferable
🐶 An adult only home – we have no history about his past.
🐶 A private secure garden with a minimum of 4ft fencing.

Buster has had surgery to correct cherry eye in both eyes. This was successful but this condition can come back so is unlikely to be covered by pet insurance. 👁️

Guess who was released… we mean rehomed this afternoon?? 🤩

This was Billi’s reaction when we told her that she was going home this afternoon! 🎉😻

For those who have visited the sanctuary recently, you will have been greeted by our Billi who likes to make everyone aware that she's there and wants attention! This was her normal pose! 🤣🤣

Well, she was lucky enough last week to hit the jackpot when an amazing adopter came forward to meet this adorable lady and all of her quirks! 🥰

Billi is such a sweet cat who needed a human companion to understand that at this moment in time, her stress bucket is full to bursting! She doesn't mean to be sassy but in situations where she's uncomfortable, this was her only coping mechanism!

We found just the right person. Someone who will give her the time she needs to decompress. After all Billi has been through in her short life she deserves nothing less than to be given her chance to shine! 🤩🥰

Good Luck Billi! We hope you have the fabulous life you deserve. 💚

A Spooktacular Month of Adoptions 🎉🐈🐶🐰❤️

We’re delighted to share that an incredible 69 animals found their forever families in October, thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff, volunteers, and wonderful supporters. ❤️

This includes 7 dogs, 3 rabbits, and 59 cats and kittens – each now safe, loved, and ready to enjoy the cosy winter months ahead. 🥰

Our Canine Companions: Three Greyhounds – Fenton, Dancer, and Badger – each headed off to their loving homes this month. They were joined by Brian the Springer Spaniel, Harry the Lurcher, Bertie the crossbreed, and another graceful Greyhound, Phoenix. 🐶💚

Our Rabbit Residents: Twister and Solero, a bonded pair from our summer-themed Ice Lolly group, went home together, while Beatrice hopped off to start a new life with her bonded partner as well. 🐰💚

Our Fabulous Felines: Some of October’s adoption list for cats and kittens is full of happy endings!

Our lovely Vienna is a wonderful dog who is absolutely desperate to be part of life but she is also incredibly shy. 💔

It's taken some time for Vienna to break down her barriers, but when she feels brave and safe with her company, she is full of life and loves to engage. 💖

Sunday Success Story 🖤🐶🖤

When we first set out to adopt a dog, we imagined one wagging tail, one food bowl, and one bed. But the moment we met Peggy-Sue and Fergus, our plan flew out the window. ❤️

These two beautiful greyhounds were clearly a dynamic duo that loved each other so much, and the idea of splitting them up felt utterly impossible. So, naturally, we came home with two very long dogs instead of one. Best decision ever. 🥰

People often think greyhounds are high-maintenance, need loads of exercise, or are somehow “different” from other dogs. But the truth is that they are just giant, soppy couch potatoes. They nap like champions, love a good snuggle, and seem entirely devoted to filling our lives with love and laughter. ❤️❤️

Toys have become a big part of our daily rhythm. Fergus loves proudly parading around with his latest teddy, while Peggy-Sue prefers the squeakers. Somehow every toy ends up in a different spot, which we’re convinced is part of their ongoing strategy to take over the living room. 🤣

Peggy-Sue is a gentle, wise, and quietly hilarious little lady. Fergus is bigger, younger, a bit of a goofball, and convinced he’s a lap dog. Together, they play, nap in perfect synchrony, and bring more joy into our home than we ever expected. It already feels like they have always been a part of our lives. 🥰

We can’t speak highly enough of the Oxford Animal Sanctuary. The adoption process was thoughtful, smooth, and genuinely heartwarming. It’s clear they care deeply about matching each animal with the right home, and we felt completely supported every step of the way. 🤩

We feel so lucky - honoured, even - to have been trusted with these two incredible souls. It was a joy to see the staff as excited as we were to see these two setting off to their forever home. ❤️

So if you’ve ever thought about adopting - especially a greyhound - let this be your sign. These dogs are full of joy, full of character, and full of so so so much love. Your sofa may never be yours again, but your heart will thank you for it. 🙏🖤

💖 Special Appeal 💖 Please share 💖

Peppa arrived at the sanctuary in poor condition. Despite being six years old, she was underweight and had the coat of a much older cat. ☹️

After speaking with our vets, we decided to do a blood test and the results were very worrying, in fact the results very much indicated that Peppa shouldn’t have been alive! But the cat in front of us was very much alive and had that fighting spirit. 💔

After consulting with our vet and Peppa's foster family, we all agree that she should be put up for adoption but acknowledge that the root cause of her issues is unknown and she may relapse. 🙏

What we do know is that Peppa is utterly adorable and she will reward you with the best feline companionship you could ask for! She has a sweet nature when it comes to her favourite humans and she loves to play! She’s not too keen on the vet though and will certainly show her sassy side! 😻

Peppa is currently taking Semintra to support her kidneys, liquid iron to help with her anaemia, Kaminox for low potassium and kidney support, and lactulose to alleviate mild constipation caused by the liquid iron. Additionally, she is on Prednisolone, which we have tried to decrease, but her blood results worsen when we do. The monthly cost will be around £80 per month including all medication, blood tests and prescriptions.

And because she’s such a special lady, she’s also on a specialised renal diet! 🐈

We understand this is an awful lot for anyone to take on but we’ve fought her corner from day one and we will continue that fight until we find her forever home with her special humans. 🙏❤️

Earlier this week, we introduced you all to Gerrard and told you about how poorly he had been and that sadly, his two siblings had passed away. 💔

Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who donated to his fundraiser. Everyone’s generosity blew us away! ❤️

On Wednesday, we were pleased to hear that he was doing so well that he was ready to go home to his foster family and to be reunited with his mum Rosa. It’s safe to say that she was just as pleased to see him as he was to see her. 😍🥹

Thank you so much to everyone at The Hart Veterinary Centre in Bicester & Aylesbury for all their dedicated care. 😻

These two will be with their foster family for a few weeks before they go up for adoption. 😍
