Merry McRescue the Elf did her nightly rounds, checking every sanctuary dog was tucked in, snuggled up, and not secretly planning a midnight snack heist. 🐾👀

She listened to the snores (and the dramatic sighs), counted boops, inspected blankies, and confirmed that yes—someone absolutely deserves to sleep diagonally across the entire bed. 😄

All dogs accounted for. Mischief minimised. Treats… under surveillance. Goodnight from Merry McRescue! 🌙🎄🐶💕

Looking for a cheerful way to kick off the festive season? The wonderful team at The Dog's Spot Shop in Abingdon is hosting a charity dog walk on Sunday 14 December, with all proceeds going to Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary.

Just arrive for 10am and join a friendly, relaxed walk through Abingdon. No booking needed - simply pop a donation in on the day.

What’s included:
• Mulled wine waiting for you at the end
• 5% off any shop purchases of £20 or more
• A chance to dress up with your dog in your most festive outfits!

Your support helps us provide care, warmth and safety for animals who need us most. We’d love to see you there.

Our lovely Vienna is a wonderful dog who is absolutely desperate to be part of life, but she is also incredibly shy. 💔

It's taken some time for Vienna to break down her barriers, but when she feels brave and safe with her company, she is full of life and loves to engage. 💖

Vienna is one of those dogs who may not show herself well due to her nervousness, but she is exactly what rescue is all about. Helping an animal feel safe and loved. 🥰

Vienna is looking for the following type of home 🏡
✅️ An adult-only home
✅️ Vienna can potentially live with another dog pending successful meets at the sanctuary.
✅️ A private secure garden with a minimum 6ft fencing.

🎄🧝‍♀️ Elf on the Shelf: Merry McRescue’s Pre-Op Pep Talk 🧝‍♀️🎄

Tonight I, Merry McRescue, popped by Harvey & Harrison’s room for an essential welfare check… 🙈

I slipped in like a festive little social worker and perched on the shelf, Serious Elf Expression on.

“Alright, lads,” I said, “I’m here to explain tomorrow’s plan.” 😜

They both sat down—well, Harvey sat. Harrison stayed in his box!

“So,” I continued gently, “you’re going to the vet for neutering.” ✂️

Harvey blinked. “Is it… a photo shoot?”
Harrison whispered, “Is it… jail?”

“No,” I said, “more like… a health upgrade. You’ll have a little trip, a little nap, and when you wake up, you’ll be missing your… ahem…” 🤣

I glanced at my notes.

“…your crown jewels.” 😳

Then there was a slight pause… 🤣

“Listen,” I said, soft but firm. “It helps you stay healthy, it helps you settle, and it helps you be the best version of you for your future family. You’ll still be handsome. Still important. Still royalty.” 💚

Harrison sniffed. “Royalty… without the royal jewels.”
“Exactly,” I nodded. “You’ll be kings… just with a simplified… inventory.” 🤣

Harvey tried to negotiate.
He offered:
✅ one paw
✅ one kiss
✅ three minutes of good behaviour (limited time offer)

I told him the vet does not accept payment in vibes. 🙊

Harrison stared at me and asked, very quietly,
“…Will I still be me?”

I hopped down and booped his nose.
“Yep. Just you… with fewer accessories and more peace.” 😻

Harvey gave a dramatic huff. “Fine. But I want my recovery package to include extra treats and unlimited compliments.” 🥰

So now they’re tucked up in their room, plotting their comeback, while I’m here sprinkling festive courage and preparing for the inevitable post-op performance titled:

“I HAVE SUFFERED” (starring Harvey & Harrison, running for seven days straight).

✨ Wish them luck, send brave-boy vibes, and maybe light a candle for the crown jewels. ✨

🎄 Christmas has come early for the animals at OAS! 🎄

A huge thank you to the incredibly generous customers of Dunelm in Didcot 😻

Dunelm have supported the Sanctuary for several years now through their 'Delivering Joy' Christmas campaign, and once again the team at the Didcot store and their amazing customers have gone above and beyond.

This year, they've donated a fantastic haul of items for our animals – food, treats, toys, games, and cosy blankets have all been placed under the tree in store.

Due to the sheer volume of donations, we've collected from them no fewer than five times over the past few weeks! Have a look at the photos to see just how lucky we are. 📸

Poor Ava has been a little under the weather recen

Poor Ava has been a little under the weather recently. 🤒

After she arrived, it was clear that something wasn't quite right! She was urinating frequently, and this would occasionally have blood in it. Then we started finding little stones in her urine. ☹️

We spoke with our wonderful vets, who arranged a bladder scan for her. As you can see from her X-rays, she had a massive collection of bladder stones. 💔

Ava had to have a cystotomy, which is a surgical procedure to open the bladder to remove bladder stones. Following her procedure, she spent the night with our wonderful friends at The Hart Veterinary Centre in Bicester & Aylesbury, having lots of extra cuddles and was monitored closely. 💚

It's always reassuring when any of our animals undergoing invasive surgery are well cared for overnight and kept as comfortable as possible. 😍

Ava returned to the sanctuary this afternoon, where she was greeted by her humans, who had missed seeing her smiley face around the site. ❤️

This happy-go-lucky lady must have been in quite a lot of pain, yet you would never have known it. At least she is free of any discomfort now, and hopefully, being on the correct diet, this will prevent any further stones from forming. 🙏

As ever, thank you to the whole team at Harts for the wonderful care they provide our animals. ❤️

Merry McRescue has launched a new sanctuary department: Worm Witness Protection 🧝‍♀️🕵️‍♀️🐶

This morning, she was found perched on the Panacur like a tiny pharmaceutical overlord, declaring:
“NO WIGGLES ON MY WATCH.”

She supervised the whole deworming round with:
💚 Strict treat-to-medicine ratios (science) 🍪⚖️
💚 Motivational speeches to confused dogs (“you’re doing amazing, sweetie”) 📣

Good news: the pups were champions, the sanctuary crew were pros, and Merry’s officially promoted herself to Chief of Belly Peace. ✨

⚠️ No elves were harmed during the panacur process 😂

💔 Ivy, another victim of humans not neutering their animals 🌈

It is with great sadness that we inform you all that, sadly, little Ivy has passed away. 😭

Weighing in at less than 70g, we knew that the odds were stacked against this little one, but we had to try to save her. 💔

Her foster mum did everything she could, but sadly, Ivy just wasn't strong enough. 😭

It's heartbreaking to think that Ivy and others with similar stories didn't have to endure this suffering. This situation could have been avoided by spaying her mother. ☹️

How many more need to suffer before owners take responsibility for their animals and get them neutered? Yes, this costs money, but this is all part of responsible ownership!

Fly high, little Ivy! We are so sorry you didn't have the happy life you deserved, but we hope your story will raise awareness and prevent others from suffering. 🙏❤️

Your memory will live on in all of our hearts 🌈

Sadly, Eggnog’s human companion passed away recently. 💔

We always worry a little more about blind cats when they arrive in our care, because they are in a strange place and don't know where everything is. But they never cease to amaze us!! 🥰

Eggnog was seen by our vets today. She needs a dentle, but other than that she’s in tip top condition! 😻
