Cattery Update – Autumn 2021

To celebrate the launch of our new cattery sponsorship donation option, we thought we’d give you a peek behind the scenes into what’s been happening over the summer.

At the beginning of the year, we saw a similar trend to the lockdown period in 2020, where we were taking in fewer cats compared to previous years. However, once the lockdown ended, we saw an increase in cats needing our help.

Since the start of the year, we have taken in 131 cats and kittens. Some have been in desperate need of help. We have taken many difficult cases this year, some have needed extra TLC, veterinary care and some have needed very specific homes.

Back in March, six cats came into our care after their owner sadly passed away. Max, Georgia, Callie, Mischief, Tigger and Blaze had the worst teeth our vets had ever seen, and all needed extensive dental treatment. Poor Mischief also had several mammary masses. Whilst their stay may have been longer due to them needing lots of extra love and veterinary care, all are now in loving homes. Mischief is still undergoing treatment for her mammary masses; we are providing extra support to her wonderful adopter.

We have also seen several extremely nervous cats come into our care. One of which was Toby. Sadly his family moved away and left him behind. Thankfully a neighbour asked for our help. On arrival, he was terrified. Toby had completely lost all trust in humans and rightly so after being abandoned. Our dedicated team knew they had a lot of work ahead of them to gain his confidence. Toby expressed himself through fear aggression and for several weeks we were unable to touch him. The team would sit and read to him, showing him that we respected his space. Within a month of being at OAS Toby had made huge progress. He was comfortable having plenty of attention and turned into such a confident cat. Toby is now enjoying life in his forever home.

We have many more cat’s past and present who have needed similar dedicated care but we wouldn’t have been able to provide this if it wasn’t for people like you supporting OAS. This allows us to provide each animal with the care they desperately need and deserve.

Thank you from all the staff and animals at OAS.

Your support means so much to us and allows us to do what we love most… and that’s helping animals in need.
