Founder of Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary – 100 years on 21st June 2016
Miss Margaret Gray who with a few friends founded the Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary in 1967 reaches 100 years of age today. The Sanctuary is based in Stadhampton and is now home to many animals. Miss Gray was Chair of the Sanctuary from the very beginning and she led the Trustees and staff through many crises over the years. Her perseverance leaves Oxfordshire with a Sanctuary for unwanted animals ensuring that they have a chance of finding a new loving home.
When the Sanctuary had difficulties and there were many, her knowledge of who to contact for help was invaluable. A formidable character, Miss Gray fought hard to keep the Sanctuary going through bad weather and hard times finding funds.
Thousands of animals have been saved because of the work of Miss Gray and friends – from small beginnings of 50p each round the table they ensured a better life for those animals in trouble. The Trustees, Management Committee, Volunteers and Supporters are still working hard to keep up what Miss Gray started with her vision so many years ago.
Next year OAS will be celebrating being open for 50 years.
