Missy & Chip – One Year On…

The delightful Missy and Chip were re-homed last August. Many of our dog walkers will remember them.

Below is the story sent to us by their new owners.

We bought our first house a year ago and knew we wanted to adopt a dog. We’re big animal welfare advocates so it had to be a rescue. We’ve always liked the OAS, having done dog walking with them over the years, and so looking through their rescues seemed a natural place to start. Here we found two adorable little friends looking for their new home, Missy and Chip. I wanted a big dog and Sarah wanted a small one so the twins seemed like a perfect fit. We took them out for several walks over summer and they were just lovely so we decided to adopt them. This meant that Missy and Chip said goodbye to their home at the sanctuary (a massive thanks to everyone at OAS, especially Liv, for looking after them so well) and arrived at their forever home late summer last year.

They can now be found roaming in and around Milton village. They are particularly fond of sitting at the front window and watching the world go by and in Chip’s case giving the world a good bark. They spend most of their days waking up with us to go for a walk around the village, often with a swim or two in the streams, before breakfast and a morning nap. I come home from work at lunch to let them out in to the garden and they then wait excitedly for us to come home for another, more adventurous, evening walk through various bits of Oxfordshire countryside. They are big fans of their walks and even bigger fans of their weekend days out visiting new and exciting places.

One of their first days out was down to Studland beach in Dorset. We had no idea if they’d ever seen a beach or the sea before but they loved every second. Chip wanted to growl at and bite every wave as it crashed on to the shore then roll around in the sand whilst Missy spent her time smiling, running and paddling as she loves to do. As well as continuing to enjoy their regular trips to various beaches they are also particularly fond of their walks on the ridgeway; running their way though the long grass and lying in the sunshine.

Missy’s absolute favourite thing in the world is to walk, or should I say run. I think she could run for days before she got tired despite being 12 years old. She seems to be using the act young feel young philosophy. We decided to get her a dog scooter recently (as she can run for much longer than I can) and she enjoys the prospect of being able to run indefinitely. When she’s out and about she gets lots of admirers as she strolls around with her fluffy tail curled over her back and bright pink tongue lolling out of her grinning mouth. We can often here voices saying ‘ahhhh look at the husky, isn’t she beautiful’ as we pass. When she’s at home though she adores curling up in the garden to soak up the sun, on the sofa for cuddles or on our bed for long sleeps. She has a very lovely temperament and is just a big softie.

Chips absolute favourite thing in the world is definitely food. It doesn’t matter what it is, if it can be eaten he will eat it and as fast as he can possibly manage. He particularly enjoys staring at us intently whilst we eat our food in the desperate hope a morsel will find it’s way to him. His favourite toy is his Kong as it dispenses tasty things on a regular basis for him. He also likes playing tug of war and having long evening cuddles. He’s very playful and enjoys performing his wide array of tricks and starts to ‘laugh’ as he gets more and more excited. Another of his favourite things is barking at anything, and sometimes nothing, that passes anywhere near ‘his’ home. He is barking less nowadays though as he seems to be settling in and calming down. He’s a very cute and funny little chap.

Missy and Chip are loving their new lives and we love them very much. Its been hugely rewarding rehoming them both in terms of giving them a new chance at life and them bringing lots of joy in to ours (as well as lots of white fur!).

If anyone out there is thinking of adopting a rescue I couldn’t recommend it more. I’d also recommend adopting from the OAS. The staff care so much for their animals (I seem to remember a little dance of joy when they found out Missy and Chip had a new home) and they’ll go above and beyond to help them and you. It really is a wonderful organisation who do a great job. Thanks from us and from the twins for absolutely everything!

If you’ve adopted from us, please send us your story and some pictures to info@oascharity.org.uk
