2. Use License

2.1 Permission is granted to temporarily download one copy of the materials (information or software) on The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary’s website for personal, non-commercial transitory viewing only. This is the grant of a license, not a transfer of title, and under this license you may not:

  • 2.1.1 modify or copy the materials;
  • 2.1.2 use the materials for any commercial purpose, or for any public display (commercial or non-commercial);
  • 2.1.3 attempt to decompile or reverse engineer any software contained on The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary’s website;

  • 2.1.5 transfer the materials to another person or “mirror” the materials on any other server.

2.2 This license shall automatically terminate if you violate any of these restrictions and may be terminated by The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary at any time. Upon terminating your viewing of these materials or upon the termination of this license, you must destroy any downloaded materials in your possession whether in electronic or printed format.

3.1 The materials on The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary’s website are provided on an ‘as is’ basis. 3.2 Further, The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary does not warrant or make any representations concerning the accuracy, likely results, or reliability of the use of the materials on its website or otherwise relating to such materials or on any sites linked to this site.

4. Limitations

In no event shall The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary or its suppliers be liable for any damages (including, without limitation, damages for loss of data or profit, or due to business interruption) arising out of the use or inability to use the materials on The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary’s website, even if The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary or a The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary authorized representative has been notified orally or in writing of the possibility of such damage. The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary does not warrant that any of the materials on its website are accurate, complete or current. The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary may make changes to the materials contained on its website at any time without notice. 7. Modifications

The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary may revise these terms of service for its website at any time without notice. By using this website you are agreeing to be bound by the then current version of these terms of service.

8. Governing Law

These terms and conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of United Kingdom and you irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in that State or location.

9. Sponsoring an Animal

9.1 When you sponsor an animal at the Sanctuary, you are helping to take care of one of our permanent residents who are not suitable candidates for adoption.

9.2 In the unlikely event of the animal being adopted into a home, or upon the animal’s passing we will contact you via the email address you have provided, to inform you of the situation.

9.3 In this event, we will present three options:

  • a) Cancel your monthly donations for the animal
  • b) Move your monthly donations to another sponsor animal
  • c) Continue as you are and we’ll simply put your generous donation towards caring for all of our sponsor animals collectively

9.4 If we do not hear from you, we will revert to option c).

9.5 You are free at any time to contact the Sanctuary and we will immediately cease your Direct Debit agreement, or simply contact your bank to cancel the mandate.

10. Adoptions

10.1 Pre-Adoption Enquiries

10.1.1 Submitting a pre-adoption questionnaire is an enquiry only. It does not guarantee that you will be offered an animal for adoption and does not reserve the animal you are interested in.

10.1.2 The questionnaire must be completed by the person who will be the animal’s main carer, who must be aged 18 or over.

10.1.3 Applicants must provide all information and supporting material requested as part of the application. This may include photographs or video of the home, garden, fencing or proposed accommodation for the animal.

10.1.4 If you live in rented accommodation, you must provide written permission from your landlord confirming that you are permitted to keep the relevant type of pet at the property.

10.1.5 By submitting a pre-adoption questionnaire, you confirm that the information you have provided is complete and accurate to the best of your knowledge. Providing false, misleading or materially incomplete information may result in your application being declined or an adoption being cancelled.

10.2 Applications and Matching

10.2.1 Every application is considered with the welfare and individual needs of the animal as our priority.

10.2.2 Submitting an application does not create an obligation on Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary (OAS) to offer you an appointment, reserve an animal or proceed with an adoption.

10.2.3 We consider the information supplied in your application alongside the needs, temperament and circumstances of the animal. We reserve the right to decline an application or decide not to proceed with an adoption where we believe the proposed home or circumstances are not an appropriate match for that animal.

10.2.4 Animals may continue to receive applications and may be reserved or adopted by another applicant before you are able to visit them.

10.3 Visits, Reservations and the £20 Deposit

10.3.1 If your application is successful, we may invite you to the Sanctuary to meet the animal. In some cases, further visits or assessments may be required before an adoption can proceed.

10.3.2 Following a successful meeting, and where both you and OAS agree that the proposed adoption is suitable, you may be offered the opportunity to reserve the animal.

10.3.3 A £20 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve an animal.

10.3.4 Please consider the decision carefully before paying the deposit. Once paid, the £20 deposit will not be refunded if you subsequently change your mind or decide not to proceed with the adoption.

10.3.5 Payment of a deposit does not override our responsibility for the welfare of the animal. OAS reserves the right not to proceed with an adoption if circumstances subsequently arise which mean that we no longer consider the adoption to be in the animal’s best interests. Where OAS decides not to proceed with an adoption for reasons unconnected with the adopter, the £20 deposit will be refunded.

10.3.6 The £20 deposit forms part of the adoption fee, with the remaining balance payable when the adoption is completed.

10.4 Home Checks and Suitability

10.4.1 As part of the adoption process, we may assess your home and the proposed environment for the animal. This will normally be carried out using photographs and/or video supplied by you, although in some circumstances we may require an in-person home visit.

10.4.2 We may require reasonable changes to be made before an adoption can proceed, such as improvements to fencing, security or an animal’s proposed accommodation.

10.4.3 An adoption will not proceed until any requirements specified by OAS have been satisfactorily completed.

10.5 Veterinary Care

10.5.1 Our animals receive a veterinary check prior to adoption and relevant veterinary information or history available to us will be provided to the adopter.

10.5.2 Where an animal requires veterinary treatment before adoption, the adoption may be delayed until OAS considers the animal ready to leave the Sanctuary.

10.5.3 Some animals, particularly young animals, may require vaccinations, neutering or other veterinary treatment after adoption. Where this applies, we will explain this to you as part of the adoption process. Unless OAS has expressly agreed otherwise in writing, responsibility for arranging and paying for treatment required after adoption rests with the adopter.

10.5.4 Where an animal has not been neutered before adoption, you agree to arrange neutering by a qualified vet by the date specified by OAS, at your own cost. Failure to do so may result in OAS requiring the return of the animal.

10.6 Adoption Fees

10.6.1 An adoption fee is payable when an adoption is completed. Current adoption fees are published on our Adoption Process page and applicants should check the current fee before proceeding.

10.6.2 All adoption fees are non-refundable.

10.6.3 Fees may vary for individual animals depending on factors including age, breed, veterinary requirements, neutering, training or behavioural support. Where a different fee applies, we will advise you before the adoption is completed.

10.7 Adoption Agreement

10.7.1 On adoption day, the adopter will be required to complete our adoption documentation and agree to the terms applicable to the adoption and ongoing care of the animal.

10.7.2 By proceeding with an adoption, you accept responsibility for providing an appropriate home and meeting the animal’s welfare, veterinary, behavioural and day-to-day needs.

10.7.3 This section sets out the general basis on which OAS accepts adoption enquiries and applications. Individual adoptions are also subject to our Adoption Terms and Conditions, which form part of the adoption agreement completed on adoption day. Where the Adoption Terms and Conditions differ from this section, the Adoption Terms and Conditions apply.

10.8 Ownership, Return and Reclaim

10.8.1 For certain animals, and in particular dogs, OAS may retain ownership of the animal. Where OAS retains ownership, this will be confirmed as part of your adoption agreement.

10.8.2 If at any time the animal can no longer remain in your care, for any reason, it must be returned to OAS. The animal must not be sold, given away, rehomed or otherwise transferred by you to any third party.

10.8.3 OAS reserves the right to reclaim any animal where, in its reasonable opinion, the animal is not being fed, housed or cared for appropriately, or where the terms of the adoption agreement are not being met.

10.8.4 Where an animal is returned to OAS, adoption fees and deposits already paid are not refundable.

10.9 Welfare Priority

Our overriding priority throughout the application and adoption process is the welfare of the animal. OAS reserves the right to pause or discontinue an adoption at any stage before completion where we reasonably believe that doing so is in the animal’s best interests.
