Fun Day 2021 – Animal Viewing Policy

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to the Sanctuary for our 2021 Fun Day. It’s been far too long!

Event details are here: https://oxfordshireanimalsanctuary.org.uk/events/fun-day-2021/

We’ve decided to rename our “Open Day” as a “Fun Day” due to the fact that we feel it essential to keep the animal areas closed during the fundraising event.

Why can’t I see the animals on Fun Day?

We’re sorry that you cannot see the animals on our Fun Day.

We have taken this decision because in recent years research and experience have given us a much greater understanding of how important it is to maintain a consistently calm and quiet environment for the well-being of animals in our care. Whilst a few of our animals can handle and even enjoy, large numbers of people visiting the majority cannot and it is liable to cause them severe stress. We are not alone in our thinking; other animal charities have taken a similar decision for the same reasons.

Over the past year, we’ve noticed how much calmer our animals have been, while the Sanctuary has been closed to visitors, due to COVID-19. This has helped us make the decision to control the number of people on-site, and this includes our Fun Day.

After previous Open Days, several of our animals remained in a fearful state, resulting in veterinary intervention to help them recover, so even one day makes a big difference.

We know how many of you enjoy walking around the cattery and rabbit enclosures on Open Days, but we believe that you support us because we take their care seriously, and would not want us to jeopardise this level of care, even for one day.

We hope you understand the reasons behind this decision and hope to see you on the day.
